DERBY WINNER CLASS LAUNCH: ‘LEMBERG’ - FOR SALE

REDUCED IN PRICE TO £14,950.00 ono

Phone: 07773 500230

J. Samuel White 1942 (Yard Number 5103)

Length and designation: 48 feet, Breadth 11ft 6ins.

Lemberg is the forward wheelhouse version of the class constructed to full tropical specification with teak hull and ‘copper’ sheath below the waterline.

Lemberg saw war service with the RASC in West Africa, probably Freetown from 1943. Returned to Small Craft disposals Woolwich 1947 and sold to Roger Miller (Release document and receipts available).

Currently fitted with 2x 6.354 Perkins to give ‘end to end’ interior access for current utilisation as a river pleasure cruiser. (The original specification was for 3x S6M Perkins with no access through the forward end of the engine room).

24 volt electrical system with Land Rover FFR alternator in addition to the standard engine fitted alternators. The FFR alternator (rated 100A) is designed to charge two battery sets separately but simultaneously. Engine battery Ni-Fe, boat battery lead-acid.

Simpson-Lawrence 401 sea toilet fitted with optional holding tank for pump-out.

Electronic equipment (radar, VHF radio etc.) should be considered time expired though the echo sounder works well and the log would be expected to operate when fitted in a weed free environment. The inflatable life raft, though present, should also be considered time expired.

Six bunks in 3 cabins plus two short bunks in the wheelhouse. One of these bunks in the centre cabin may be considered by some to be a double. [Bow cabin with two bunks tapering towards bow. Centre (main) cabin with double bunk to Starboard and settee/bunk on port side. Stern cabin with two bunks.

Condition is pretty much as may be expected on an un-restored wooden boat over 60 years old with some soft patches on non-teak elements. Lemberg remains afloat throughout the year (59 in Miller ownership so far) and takes virtually no water through the hull. The topside, however, does leak particularly after prolonged sunshine.

View by appointment only please. Located on the lower, locked, Thames.

For any who may wish to revert to original, the centre engine bearers and stern-tube are still in place as are the original manual gear change linkages (but not the wheelhouse levers) for all three gearboxes.

For the avoidance of doubt:
i) Only the outer leaf of the hull is teak.
ii) ‘Copper’ includes ‘Muntz’ metal.
iii) ‘End to end’ means cabin end to cabin end.

Centre cabin, facing forward. (Note radio operator’s sliding hatch to wheelhouse). To save you looking it up, Lemberg the horse won the Derby in 1910.
